Two years ago our wellie wearing family moved to the rolling wet hills of Mid Wales. We decided to grow our own fruit and veg, keep bees, poultry and build our own furniture with little or no experience.

This is our journey to the good life.

So when we moved in during Autumn 2011 I decided that I wanted to take up woodwork and aim to build some of our furniture as well as stuff for the house and garden. Even with my lack of experience I managed to work out that having no tools or work space in addition to having no skill would be an issue so...

After having a bash at building a couple of sheds for general storage and buying tools as I found that I needed them I got around to concentrating on a shed just for me and my new hobby - the MAN CAVE!

It's been up for about a year now and I have slowly been furnishing it with tools and machines, some I have saved up for and others I've begged for, borrowed or found cheap (and ancient) on Ebay.

I built myself a workbench out of 2x4 and 3/4inch plywood and added a couple of (rather wobbly) vices.  The blue metal poking into the left edge of the picture is an ancient lathe that I found on Ebay for a few quid, it enabled me to try a bit of turning with a view to becoming proficient enough to turn legs for furniture.

In the last year or so I've managed to add some additional tools and machines and built up a stock of hardwood, most important is the radio - I'll add more details in later posts.

In the last year in the Cave I've made a bathroom cabinet, oak hallway table, Salt and Pepper Mills, a kitchen island, a large picture frame, birdhouses and various other niknaks. Karen has also had me building raised beds, an outrageously large veg cage and numerous other projects.
