Two years ago our wellie wearing family moved to the rolling wet hills of Mid Wales. We decided to grow our own fruit and veg, keep bees, poultry and build our own furniture with little or no experience.

Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust

The Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust works hard in this area to promote wildlife and conservation at home as well as in more formal projects. They have a scheme, based on their website, where anyone in the area can send in pictures of their garden and if they demonstrate areas which promote wildlife then you will recieve a small plaque to stick onto your gate.

We got the kids to look at the criteria and work out which areas of the garden we should submit. We tagged it onto a looking for bugs trip around the place and then they took photos and emailed them off.

They were really excited when they got a reply in the post with this...



This is a great scheme for a family and the long grass area means less mowing (yippee) if you live in the area take a look at the scheme and their work here:
